Re: Spring 2024 Textbook Adoptions

It’s time to submit your textbook adoptions for Spring 2024 classes! Book orders are due by Wednesday, November 22nd. Timely adoptions permit the bookstore website to acquire a greater quantity of used books as well as the ability to submit the title for rental option. On-time adoptions benefit our students with better prices during buyback. Should you be unable to submit your adoptions by the due date, please do so at your earliest opportunity.

We will be using the Barnes & Noble Adoption and Insights Portal for textbook adoptions. A link to the portal is available from the B&N Adoptions link on the Gateway. Once there, you will be able to select the term, search for courses by your last name, and easily add texts and other course materials to each course.

Tutorial links are posted on the Bookstore site, as well as in the Gateway.

If you will not be requiring a text, kindly submit that by indicating it on your adoption overview page. If you do not want your students to have an e-book option for a text, be sure to indicate that while adopting your text. We require a book order for every course being offered, including classes with no course material.

As a reminder, the Higher Education Opportunities Act (HEOA) of 2008 requires all colleges to make textbook information available to students as soon as practical and to the maximum extent possible. Visit the NACS Overview of HEOA Textbook Provisions for an overview. Dickinson College fulfills this obligation through the Bookstore website. Titles adopted will be viewable online and reservations will begin in early January.

Please place your adoptions using the B&N adoptions link on the Gateway.

You may also send us the author, title, and 13 DIGIT ISBN via email. When you place your order online, make sure you click “Submit Adoption.” Your confirmation will appear online once you adoption has been completed. If you don’t receive this message, please contact us.

Since SP17, the Library no longer obtains copyright permissions for printed material. We are now using a third party vendor, LAD Custom Publishing. If you will be using a course pack requiring permissions, please contact the Textbook Manager so we may fill out a Print Request form for the Print Center.

Please keep in mind that if a title is canceled, changed, or switched from “Required” to “Recommended” or “Optional” after we have opened the website for students, the academic department may be charged for incurred fees.

If you require desk copies, we would be happy to provide publisher contact information, but we do not order desk copies. You may request them directly from the publisher, or your ADC may request them on your behalf.

Don’t hesitate to contact us with questions M-F, 9:00–4:30. We will be happy to help.

Thank you,
