Faculty Services

In partnership with Barnes and Noble College, Dickinson has launched the Adoption & Insight Portal (AIP), a course material adoption platform that provides faculty with a new resource to research and adopt textbooks and course materials. AIP’s features include one-click read options, textbook search by ISBN, and the ability to search for and compare course materials in a variety of price ranges, including Open Educational Resources (OERs).

The college requires a textbook adoption for every course being offered, including classes with no course material. If course material is not required for your class, please indicate that on your adoption overview page. If you do not want your students to have an e-book option for a specific text, be sure to indicate that.

To access AIP, click the Barnes & Noble icon on the Dickinson Gateway. You’ll be able to select the term, search for courses by your last name, and easily add texts and other materials to each course. Please refer to the documents below for instructions on using AIP.

When you place your order online, click “Submit Adoption.” A confirmation will appear once your adoption has been completed. If you don’t receive this message, please contact bookstor@dickinson.edu

New faculty members

Welcome! If you cannot access Banner to submit an adoption please reach out to your Department Chair and the Registrar's office. They can assist with completing access to Banner. Access is granted to the AIP after a nightly upload.

IA (Inclusive Access)

Any IA materials should be adopted into the AIP as well notifying the bookstor@dickinson.edu directly to ensure all technical setups are complete for your course. This should occur as soon as possible. When adopting in the AIP you must select the ZZDIRECT code for IA, this is MBS #6515740. This adoption indicates to the students that the course materials are IA. Please refer to the Inclusive Access page for additional information regarding IA and the students utilizing the materials.

Copyright Information

Since SP17, the library no longer obtains copyright permissions for printed material. The college uses LAD Custom Publishing to obtain copyright permissions for printed materials. If you will be using a course packet requiring copyrighted material, you will need to complete a LAD citation form and return to LAD (efitton@ladcustompub.com) along with a PDF of the requested copyright material.

Additional Information

The Higher Education Opportunities Act (HEOA) of 2008 requires all colleges to make textbook information available to students as soon as practical and to the maximum extent possible. Visit the NACS Overview of HEOA Textbook Provisions for an overview. Dickinson College fulfills this obligation through the Bookstore website. Titles adopted will be viewable online with reservations opening prior to the start of the semester.

Please be aware that if a title is canceled, changed or switched from “Required” to “Recommended” or “Optional” after opened for student purchase, the academic department will be charged for any incurred fees.

If you require desk copies, you may request them directly from the publisher, or your ADC may request them on your behalf. Contact the Bookstore if you need publisher contact information.
